Accelerated Reader Contest STUDENTS in Grades 3, 4 & 5 can win a chance to hear author, R. L. STINE talk about his books and writing at the Authors’ Lecture Series on the Wolfson Campus of Miami-Dade College. The top ten students in each grade with the most AR points will go to the Miami Book Fair International for this special event! Only AR points earned Oct. 17th through Nov. 10th will be counted to determine the winners. GET ACCELERATED AND READ!! Each reading group has a race car and as they accumulate points they move around the track. Grades 2 and 3 are on one track and Grades 4 and 5 on another. When the cars pass the 'finish line' on each track, they are then put on the Big Cars! We now have the First Grade students and Kindergarten students working on AR to help us reach our school-wide goal! WHAT IS ACCELERATED READER? It is a computer software program that allows students to take quizzes on books that they have read. The library books in Winston Park’s Media Center for which there are Accelerated Reader quizzes are clearly marked with an AR sticker, as well as the reading level of the book and the points the students will earn by passing the quiz. The AR management system keeps track of their progress and comprehension skills for each quiz taken.
